Default Rear end and clutches - need help

Can anyone help me ID this rear end. I was told it was out of a G2, but I am not confident that the guy knew what he was talking about. I am putting it in my G1 so I have reverse. I appreciate any help I can get. I know I need to rebuild the rear or driven clutches, but I think I need to ID it before I can find the parts I need. Also, what is the the silver post standing up out of the top. Do I need that to be attached to anything? Also, I am putting a 14 horse briggs if that matters. Thanks
