Default Throttle Cable

Hi. I have a 91 Club Car DS. I use it for work, at a apartment complex. I was sitting with the key on, and smoke statted coming from under the seat. Upon further inspection, the throttle cable was glowing red hot. I let it cool and looked in the box where the regulator is and there were no signs of trauma and the main fuse wasn't blown. I have a manual and I can't see anywhere that the cable has anything to do with electric. Tha cable did break in half when I touched it so it will need replaced but I hate replaceing parts when I don't know what the problem is. Please help. Thanks, Ken.

It sounds as if you have an open ground wire and the electric is shorting to the frame via the throttle cable.

I think Doom meant an open live wire grounding out through the throttle cable kdm. And he is most likely right. Check the whole run of the throttle cable for something touching it, isolate and repair the issue and you should be good to go. When you find the cause, perhaps you would write up what had occurred and your repair, these little snippets help us all to trace and/or prevent these kinds of issues down the road.

I meant an open broken ground from the engine cradle forcing
the ground to path out the throttle cable. It could also be
flowing on the brake cables.

Aah, sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. Quite right, that may be the problem.

I didn't have a lot of time to spend on it today, but the ground is possible, because it didn't blow the main fuse (or any fuse). Everything still works fine, lights, horn, backup buzzer. So do you think if I don't find anything that looks bad or broken, I could hook up a ground wire from the battery to the frame to solve this? Thanks for the responses. Ken.

I am not sure about clubc but the engine starter gen has to be grounded back to the battery, so just going to the frame may leave the cradle and engine isolated.
Sorry if I am not being clear.

A1 will definitely need to go to ground you go that route. It might just be easier to remove the existing grounds and thoroughly clean them rather than go through the hassle of fitting new ones.
