Grease under engine?????

HI ALL,ok I am a newbie to the cart world. I just purchased a 99 CCDS. After riding it a few hours I noticed a considerable oil leak. After looking into it and testing I found it is coming from the crankcase cover seal (typical according to CC Dealer) I know enough to be dangerous, I am through the breakdown and the engine is now out. Just waiting on parts to come,(crankcase seal head gasket and misc others. Heres the question, there seems to be a pretty precise "patch" of grease under the motor. Is this suppose to be there? Looks as so but baffled as to why. It is an fe290 by the way just for a while . I am in the process of getting the install parts list togeather for a B&S 627cc propane motor converting to gas and installed in the cart any insight on that appreciated as well.
