Is a G8 model the same as a G9?

Well I run my serial number thru the site and it says I have a 1992 G8AH gas golf cart.

I can't find any reference to the G8 in terms of parts/engines/etc.

Is this the same as a G9 cart?

I'm going to need to rering my engine and ordered a manual for the G2/G9 thru ebay. But might as well order some parts in the meantime.

More than likely its a G9. Click on the Yamaha link below in my sig. G8's look more like a small car than a cart.

Found this information on the Golf Cart Catalog.

The Yamaha G8 is an upscale version of the fleet model G9, another golf car model Yamaha offered during the same years. The G8 came out in 1990 and it sported a curvier front cowl and rear fenders. It also has a long, full front bumper (side to side) and the seat bottom can be completely removed from the car, whereas the G9 (and G2) seat bottom remains fixed to the seat pedestal and cannot be easily removed from the car.

the motor in a G8 is the same as in G9 carts. the frame on a G8 are the same as a G16. you can put a G16 body on a G8. i call a G8 a cross bread

Well I'm glad I haven't lost my mind yet. The serial number starts with JF2 and then 2xxxxxxx leading me to believe its a 1992 G8 model.

So this means that mechanically its the same as a G9? Just some cosmetic differences with the body?

yes body and frame. but motor and rear end is the same as the G9

Well thats no fun, I like the looks of the G9 better (headlights, etc).

But at least now I know how to rebuild the engine. I read the post on new rings for the G16.

Any benefits to putting a new piston and rings in there, or should I just go with new rings (smokes/low compression, but no noise).

Will be a good project for me.
