Precedent with 12V keeps melting posts
A friend melted a post on a 12V battery he had in his Precedent. I figured the nut came loose on the post since that is pretty much the only thing I have seen that will melt a post beside a bad wire end. I replaced the battery and checked all the other nuts to make sure they were tight. Well a month later and now he melted another one. Is there something else that would cause resistance at the post to melt it? Batteries are tied down in holders so they are not rocking like many carts Ive seen so nothing out of the ordinary that I can think of but looking for other options.

Corrosion, if there is any replace the cable. Overtightening will break the stud loose in it lead base and melt the terminal. Use a torque wrench.

Re: Precedent with 12V keeps melting posts
I realize a bad cable or loose stud will cause that like i said. That is not the case because I installed it myself. My full time job is a golf course mechanic for 20 years so i have some clue of what going on however I have never seen this happen twice on the same cart.

Make sure it does not have lock washers under the nuts.

Its a cable terminal, or loose battery cable at post. Same post? and you know it was tight, change the cable.

Bad connection is the only reason for melted posts. Either loose or dirty.

Re: Precedent with 12V keeps melting posts
Can you describe or provide pictures of the melting posts? I ask as one of the 2008.5 carts we just bought is a (4) 12v US Battery setup, whereas the other 5 were (6) 8v setup with Trojan 875s. The (4) 12v with US Batteries are leaking around the post whenever my neighbor charges it, which means he'll need to get new batteries and obviously we will be skeptical about US Batteries.
