Default Charging port question

I have a 2004 TXT 36 volt shuttle. I am looking to do a few things but have a question about the charger port and operating the cart with the charger plug remaining in the charger port.

I had planned on putting a secondary 12 volt battery in the space next to the main battery tray to operate LED lights, radio, charging ports, etc. I was going to maintain this with a battery tender type charger.

The charger that I recently bought by for the main batteries is much smaller than the original Powerwise charger and is a "smart charger" that goes into maintenance mode/trickle charge once the batteries are full.

My plan is to keep the charger in the rear storage space of the cart. I was then going to remove and relocate the charging port somewhere in inside the battery compartment area so that it could stay connected to the charger. In place of the charging port I was going to install a recessed male extension cord plug receptacle that would be connected to the main battery charger as well as the secondary battery trickle charger. Once done with the cart for the day I would then just plug in an extension cord to the receptacle ND both the main and secondary batteries would charge.

So my questions are is the orange wire on the rear of the charger port a "kill switch" type of setup? If so what is the purpose of it? Is it just to stop you from driving off while still connected? Or would trying to operate the cart while still plugged into the charger (absent the orange wire) cause damage to the cart in some way?

I obviously intend to remove the extension cord before operating the cart but I do have a wife and two daughters that use the cart as well. With that being said if attempting to use the cart while connected to the powered up charger would cause damage to the controller etc I probably will not take the chance.

I m hoping it is just to help remind someone that the cart is still plugged in before driving off.

You could run the cord through the steering wheel when you plug it in, then you would have to remove it before driving away.

The little "red wire" version should be the factory reed switch bypass version (I think "little white wire" is the one that still has a charger interlock). It shouldn't damage the controller. To be sure, fully charge cart, Do Not disconnect charge plug, CAREFULLY try to drive it a little. If it drives, you'll be fine. Be careful not to drive it far enough to pull any wires & cords, rip charger out of the wall, ect. You could also just open the charger handle that plugs into the cart, and remove the magnet, that's how the reed switch is activated anyway.
