Johnnie B,we have done a great job of jacking Matrix's thread, but looks to me we are all dealing with RFI.In trying to determine the source or the RFI in another thread OP said he had the loss of signal also when headlights were pulled on,this being the common factor in my 3 carts, his fix was to go to LED headlights.Does this make any sense to you, given your experience, the LEDs are not going to have the amp draw of bulb halegens but in my case the antennas are marine and under the nose of the carts on top of the headlights?

Like I mentioned, a Voltage Reducer is another RFI source and the amount of RFI it causes may be determined by the amps it is putting out at 12V, which would be proportional to the amps it draws from the battery pack. LED headlights will draw few amps, so the voltage reducer system will be quieter electrically.

Using an auxiliary battery rather than a voltage reducer would eliminate RFI caused by the Voltage Reducer, but not RFI caused by the cart's speed controller.

Basically, if the radio or audio system is misbehaving when the lights or other 12V accessory that uses a lot of amps, is turned on, then it is the voltage reducer causing the RFI.

If the Radio misbehaves when the cart accelerates, climbs a steep hill or other situation where the motor is drawing a lot of amps, the RFI source is the speed controller.

If the audio system (Not a radio) misbehaves, it is likely that the interference is getting in through the power lines and power line filters may help. However, if intense, RFI can get into an audio amp through the air if the audio system is not well shield against it. (Manufacturing/design issue)

In addition Speed Controllers and Voltage Reducers, bad brushes in the motor can also generate RFI.

-----------
A marine type antenna under the nose should be fine, along as it is well separated from the wiring under the dash and headlights. (The wiring acts like a transmitting antenna for the RFI source. )

------------
An electric golf cart is a very hostile environment (electrically) for a sound system, but with today's "Music" who can tell the difference?

I was just picking nits about the name.

The symptoms he gave were classic RFI issues. And when volume fades and returns, it is most likely either fluctuating power or RFI.

I have overcome the whole issue for now,,, I just sing to the wife and friends the music (I) want to hear. So far the issue with that has been the pain in my rib cage from the hard elbows she throws trying to find the off switch.
