In fact, I'm about 99.9% sure that replacing the solenoid will not fix the problem. Connect your negative test lead to the main negative terminal on the battery pack and the positive test lead to the solenoid's small terminal with the orange wire attached. With the Keyswitch ON, F/R in either F or R and the pedal pushed, you should measure battery pack voltage. If not, one of the aforementioned switches is bad, or the wiring that connects them and the solenoid coil in a series circuit is bad. Attached is a schematic of a Marathon Controller cart with the solenoid activation circuit highlighted. A fault in any of the red or green highlighted wires or the components tied together by those wires, won't allow the solenoid to activate. |

Re: Ez go marathon no go
It's kinda hard for me to follow the diagram, but it appears the controller can power up, independently of solenoid getting power?
I assumed a powered up controller meant power to solenoid. My bad. |

Your assumption is correct for Medalist and TXT series carts (unless someone rewired them), however EZGO used about a half dozen wiring schemes in their solenoid activation circuits, not to mention the variations the aftermarket guys tossed into the mix. I am also making the assumption the solenoid isn't clicking because he didn't know what it sounded like and if it was clicking, chances are he would know the sound. Based on that, my guess is that the pedal switch (MS-3) is bad or maladjusted, but it could be an issue with the wire between MS-3 and the solenoid coil, or the wire between the solenoid coil and the B- terminal on the controller. |
