Tire size versus speed
I know someone posted a chart here somewhere about this but I'll be darned if I can find it now. My cart passed street legal inspection today and I realized that 12-14MPH is painfully slow even on the side streets. I would like to get it close to 20MPH if possible.
The cart is a 2009 TXT PDS with stock everything (motor, wheels, controller, etc..) I am going to install a freedom personality plug into it and want to go to a slightly larger tire because I plan to install discs in the back eventually. My question is what gain in speed can I expect going from 8" to 10" or 12" tires? I know at the minimum I need to go to 10" for the back discs. Would 12" take too much of the stock torque from the motor? Thanks Terry |

Re: Tire size versus speed
Terry, its not of the wheel size.....its the TIRE diameter size that makes a difference.

Re: Tire size versus speed
Actually, I knew that but blew it in the description above.
Ok, let me try this again. I'm going to install a freedom plug and from what I've read this will get me in the 16 to 18MPH range. From there I'll need to either install 10" or 12" hubs to facilitate the rear discs I'll be adding. What would you guys with more experience than I (all of you, LOL) recommend in tire diameter to get me from 16 to 18MPH up to the 20 to 22MPH range? Thanks guys. |

Re: Tire size versus speed
do you use your cart for only ON ROAD driving or a combo?
if I were going with strictly street tires, I would go with lo-profile tires that will about 20" for a combo tire.....I might go up to 22's |

Re: Tire size versus speed
In Freedom mode, my TXT will run 22-23 mph with 23" tires. It runs right around 18 mph in Mild Hill mode. I bought it with the big tires so I can't really comment on torque with stock tires, but I have no complaints. It manages 12-14 mph on all but the very worst of hills.

Re: Tire size versus speed
Thanks for the info guys! I'll be using the cart strictly on road or on the rare occasion in grass fields and such. Don't plan to "off-road" at all.

Re: Tire size versus speed
You will be happy with 20" tall tires and a freedom chip, that will put you about 21 mph. No lift kit needed for 20" tires either. I'd keep the stock rear drum brakes though, the mech rear disc are over rated imo.

Re: Tire size versus speed
Congrats on the Street Legal!! That's awesome!
Down here we HAVE to get to 21 minimum to get plated, guess it's not the case in Ohio? |
