Re: motor heat help
Winding insulation is good to 180°C. Water boils at 100°C, but there's a time lag from when the windings get hot and when the case gets hot, so I use the wet finger sizzle test. Like our Mom's did to test whether the iron is hot enough. If you hit 100°C and rest, you have a very healthy factor of safety.
Google Alltrax, download their ExRay manual. They have a recommended temp for the warning light and danger light to turn on. |

Re: motor heat help
yurtle, I've got a temp. checker from Home Depot, one made by Ryobi, and it checked 249F. As far as the year , it's a 2010.

Re: motor heat help
I didn't think that the stock ezgo pds motors could handle 180C.

Re: motor heat help
The insulation is rated at 180°C. I wouldn't push mine that hot, but the rating itself has a factor of safety. The only thing I'd worry about is the bearing may not like it that hot.
I would expect you'd smell oil and dirt and maybe paint stink long before you hit 180. |

Re: motor heat help
I replaced my 1998 bearing a few years ago, and only because I wanted to check the brushes, and had it torn apart anyway. 2010 bearing should have many miles to go. The only thing most of us don't know with used buggy is whether they were driven once a week, or constantly at a golf course.

Re: motor heat help
Altrax Exray Manual says 75°C or 167°F is too hot, but suggests checking with manufacturer. That's external temp. Internal temp will probably be hotter.
