Re: 1989 EZGO Marathon Electric wont go.
With the lever mounted I get full range from 0ohms to 5kohms.

Re: 1989 EZGO Marathon Electric wont go.
I apoligize. With the lever attached I go from 0ohms to 2kohms. The cart is still not working. I figured at 2k I should at least get slow speed. Can anyone tell me if with the lever on they get from 0 to 5k. The original pot gets a full revolution but the range is from 0 to 15k ohms. I assume the original pot should only go from 0 to 5k after a full 360 degree turn since that is what it is rated at. I dont know where to go from here. HELP PLEASE. I am an electrical engineer so I am good at testing and measuring things.

Maybe the 15k pot is right and I have to adjust it so the lever range is from 0 to 5k?

Re: 1989 EZGO Marathon Electric wont go.
The rotation range of standard pot is from about 270° up to about 315° and the rotation range of the pot installed in a PB-6 pot box is only about 30° to 45°, so the pot itself will be greater than 0-5k.
The throttle input range for the controller is 0-5k. It isn't all that critical, but if the low end is much above Zero Ohms, the cart will jerk on takeoff and if the Ohmic value exceeds about 7k, the controller will shut-off. (Safety feature) Jack the rear tires off ground and push the pedal. If the tires don't spin in the air with a 2k throttle input, here is more wrong than just a bad/wrong pot. BTW: The cart may have a 1/2 speed reverse feature, which parallels the pot with a fixed resistor, so the input to the controller is 0-2.5k when in reverse, so 2k ought to spin the tire in the air fairly fast. |

Most pots have three terminals, wiper in the middle, and the two outer terminals are both sides of the resistance material. Are you sure it's 0 - 2k and not 2k - 0 when installed? You may need to use the other "outer" terminal.

Re: 1989 EZGO Marathon Electric wont go.
OK, I am going to put the original pot in and adjust it so it ranges 0 to 5k. I have the wipers soldered correctly because I put my meter on the two terminals and measured it. If this does not work how can I test to see if my motor is good? The motor did work when I brought it home. Where can I order a new controller and throttle for it? I appreciate all the input people have given me so far. Glad I found this site.

I will wire two wires to the old pot and put terminal end on it and hook it up and that way I can push the pedal down to activate the micro switch which I know works and then try to adjust the pot by hand to see if it spins.

Re: 1989 EZGO Marathon Electric wont go.
Ok, the pot makes no difference. I still cant get the tires to spin so it is down to the controller or the motor. I assume since I get voltage out of the solenoid when the micro switch is released that the forward and reverse switch are working.
