Marathon Lift questions....Econ lift vs Jake 4"
I have a 91 marathon, adding a rear seat kit this week also have the HD leaf springs coming for the extra weight. Cart is 36v stock motor and controller, plan to upgrade controller down the road. Running 10in wheels with 205/50/10 street tires, will be keeping those tires for awhile. Cart is pretty much on road all the time with no off roading, also not really any hills with being in south Florida. Would possibly like to put some bigger tires down the road but nothing too crazy. I have been looking on here at the different setups and trying to decide between the economy lift with the longer shocks front and rear vs jakes 4in axle drop, can't really make my mind up on which way to go. Any help and insight would be much appreciated. 👍🏻👍🏻🍻

I put the economy on mine. It's just a stepping stone for me. I know you said mostly on road so, it might not effect you as bad. The way the front end on these carts are setup, they're designed for smooth terrain. With the lift, big holes or logs causes the axle to want to fold back under the cart. It causes a lot of strain on the springs. I've broken springs and cracked the frame where they mount. I am eventually converting to a long travel setup to get rid of this. Also, the economy lift is simple and not just a bolt on ordeal. I had to make brackets to move the front shocks away from the frame and needed wheel spacers on the rear. I would go with the axle drop for yours. It should be better.

Most of the EZGO lifts are equivalent in ride quality, unless you get into the long travel dual a arm kits. The truth is the leaf spring design front suspensions are not that well suited for off road use, but are just fine for campground cruising and some occasional trail use. It's just a design issue. Neither kit you are looking at will improve the ride any, if anything it will get a little bit harsher. The larger tires will give you better ground clearance for off road use, but the suspension won't flex all that much.
For on road use they work just fine. Make sure you get your toe set properly, that's key. Pretty much straight up, maybe 1/16" toe in. Steering at higher speeds is sketchy on those carts. Be careful. |

I have an economy lift now but am going to go with a drop axle for my build. I just like the concept and the fact it kicks the front tires out. Ditching the rear leafs and going with coil overs in the back with a 3 link. The body is going to be about the only thing marathon left on mine when its done though.

I didn't have time to dig much but why can you get a dual arm lift (allsports) for a yami for ~320, but you can't for an ezgo they are 800. I'm sure the yami lift fits yami spindles, but why can't they make a mount to fit a deal like that on there and toss the leafs, get some ex400 shocks or something. Maybe you can't for some reason.

I will start a build thread once I get moving a little more on it. Started out with a $125 electric marathon with a straight body. As it sits now its a bare frame, with a workhorse rear axle under it. The plan is a 3 link rear with Suzuki Z400 front shocks and a clone engine. Front will be a 5" TXT drop axle, TXT springs, and drag link steering. 23" tires on 12" wheels. Gonna be one hell of a frankenstein cart!
