Default Solenoid Q

If I am going to replace a solenoid, through age, If, or should I use an HD? If so where does the resistor connect, assuming I use a 200A solenoid?
on std 2003 DS
Reason for new solenoid consideration is new F-R switch is being fitted next couple days. Thanks in advance

It definitely wont hurt to put a new solenoid in. If you ever plan on upgrading then look at what you may want in the future and use the recommended solenoid size. If you have a resistor cart (no controller) then you don't need a resistor on the solenoid, otherwise if your current solenoid has a resistor hook it up just the same.

The precharge Resistor will still go between the 2 large posts and is non-directional. It is for precharging the capacitors in your controller by allowing a small amount of current through it.

The activation Diode, which is normally on the 2 small posts or spades, is to protect the unit when the field opens. Some call it a "Fly-back" diode. Some aftermarket solenoids will come polarized and contain this feature internally. If so, it will be marked with a + and a - on each side.

Solenoids marked with polarity on the coil terminals do not all have internal diode. Some may but not all do.

Thanks all.. F-R switch worked fine I was shocked at how quick Reverse was though I expected it to be slower like half speed.. Didn't seem any slower to me going backward..Any ideas?

On the reverse MS there should have been a wire that has a resistor in it that cut the throttle signal in half.
