Default Has anyone found a fuel shutoff is Beneficial?

When I installed a fuel shutoff on my 14hp snapper rear engine mower, it became so much easier to start, after it sets for a week or so.

Sometimes the cart that we have in the country, can sit for two or three weeks.

I am wondering if a fuel shut off, would help. Turn the fuel off and let it run out of gass?

Good or bad oppinions? anything helps

Gravity fed engines are a little different because the tank will continue to feed fuel once shut off. Cart motors are pump fed so they only get fuel when running. That being said if a motor sits with fuel in the carb it can gum things up so an empty bowl is a good thing. As for your cart hard to start after it sits a while that could be the check valve starting to fail in the pump so even if you didn't run it until it was out of fuel a shutoff would at least stop that.

I use it on both my small Yamaha 2K and A-iPower 12K gens. It keeps the carb from getting gummed up and helps a bunch I think for items that are not used on a regular basis.
My chain saws I have always ran dry even though they have pumper carbs and no floats. IMO it is worth the time on any float bowl carbs to install if they do not have it. I bought one for our Toro Workman because it will only be used once a month or so at our property and ran dry before shutdown and storage.

Helps with ethanol fuel issues as well by not letting the carb sit in it.

I have a factory fuel shut off, the only time I've used it is during the 6 month long duration's of our wonderful Wisconsin winters! (sarcastic)
Or if I disconnect the fuel lines to replace the filters, or mess with the carburetor jet, otherwise... my shut off collects dust!

Naaah... I had 8 years experience in the 80's and 90's, California wasn't for me!
I don't know much about the fuel additives back then,
but the smog devices California required on vehicles made it almost impossible to even change spark plugs on them!
