Re: Brakes
Take off both brake drums, and do one side while you copy the other.
Some models have one shoe slightly larger (like 1/8") shoe than the other. Can't remember which one it is (front or rear shoe). Clean parts and grease star adjuster with very small amount of grease so it moves/ turns easy, and reassemble like other side, then do the other side. Hope this helps Mike |

Re: Brakes
There should be 2 threaded holes in the flat face area, they are for 2 6mm bolts to screw in to help push the drum off the hub. But you might have to rotate the large hole in the drum to the bottom (six-o-clock) where the star adjuster is and loosen it off a couple revolutions to free the shoes from dragging on the drums,
A couple light taps with a hammer maybe needed to break the rust from the drums to loosen them also. I put a very light coat of "never seize" on the hub around where the stud area and the flat hub area contact the drum so it doesn't rust again or at least not very much. Hope this helps Mike |

Re: Brakes
Just another point of veiw, this is how I do it. On G1's thru G8's and some G14's, I loosen the jam nut and excentic nut at the cable equalizer (at the brake pedal, gives you some slack in the cables) then try to get off the brake drums, sometimes with a tap with the hammer and sometimes backing off the self adjuster thru the hole in the drum/axle flange. Then I remove the axle (4 12mm head bolts acessed thru the holes in the axle flange. Remove the axle and reinstall the backing plate with one bolt. That alows easy spring removal and reinstall (make shure to back off the adjuster so the new brake shoes will fit inside the drum). Reinstall the axle, adjust the self aduster so there is a slight drag on the drum, then adjust the brake cable equalizer at the pedal. Seems like I've written this before On Dana style rearend brakes, take off the hub axle nut, remove the hub (no need to pull the axle) and repleat as described for the earlier models. Hope that helped alittle.
