Default <modifying electric golf cart rear axle

I came into possession of a WMB301001 ez-go golf cart rear end. I am attempting to use it on a home built go-kart but am having trouble getting the brake drums off. I have done brake changes on cars and trucks but have never done a golf cart rear axle. I am able to get the center axle nut off but prying and beating on that drum has done nothing but make my arms sore. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
