Re: 98' F290 Stalling Even After Major Parts Replacement...
It's been a while, but I just wanted to thank everyone for their great advice. After I hade replaced the coil and still had problems getting it to start, I decided to take it to a dealer who spent 3 hours working on it and finding nothing. They eventually pulled the head and claim that their was excessive carbon build up on the valves, etc. which may or may not ben the issue. But since the cart uses a lot of oil (even though it has great compression), I thanked them and eventually they did get it to start pretty well.
After we got it home, it would start OK and the stalling problem which started this whole mess was gone (I'm almost positive it was the coil), but it ran slower than the hills. Anyway, one of the first things I did was to make some adjustments to the governor cable and it runs great but is now hard to start once again (go figure). One of these days I will get the right combination between throttle cable and governor cable figured out and maybe we will all be happy. Until then, a little choke and away we go... As a side note, after it came back from the shop, I also installed a new carb since we were still getting some 0backfiring and the throttle valve shaft was worn pretty bad. This seems to have had no impact on it starting. Thanks again for all your help! drluv |
