85 ds starts moving when you turn key
Alright, having an issue with my 85 club car ds, noticed standing at it with the seat up that the coil was red hot, but only with the key on, no throttle. Throttle pedal isn't hanging up or anything, if on flat ground and turn the key on it will start rolling by itself,... Thoughts?

Re: 85 ds starts moving when you turn key
For an 1985 to be a "ghost rider" 2 solenoids have to be fused together, one being the master solenoid and one of the speed solenoids

Re: 85 ds starts moving when you turn key
So the one coil should indicate the master to the 1st solenoid correct?

Re: 85 ds starts moving when you turn key
I would jack the rear end off ground then turm on switch put in forward get the multimeter out put the black lead on ground terminal on battery test each small terminal colored wires on solenoid make sure that any have no power if thats ok you could have welded solenoid now check the big stud.I would unhook the negative battery cable turn off unit put in neutral unhook the long bar off solenoind put your multimeter on ohm beeper take both leads on both big studs on solenoid check each one there should be no beep or reading ohms if one does it has welded contacts will need replaced

Master coil is farthest to the drivers side. Which coil is glowing?

You need 2 OEM type solenoids

Re: 85 ds starts moving when you turn key
I would check the throttle box first, it may not be retracting all the way back.
Even if You have two welded solenoids, that cannot explain why it works only with key switch. The key switch is the negative side of all of the solenoids. You can see the wire that links all of the small posts on one side. The individual micro-switches inside the Throttle Box control the +48v side of each solenoid. With the key switch OFF, set your meter for 200vDC and measure the voltage from pack negative to each of the solenoids small post connected to the throttle box. They should all be 0V, if You get +48v, that corresponding micro-switch is bad. If the 2 solenoids on the driver side are the ones hot, I would make sure the throttle linkage is right, otherwise replace the micro-switch for each solenoid that shows +48v at the coil. |

Where are the micro switches? In that little white box with the red rubber ends?
