36V vs 48V
Have been reading a previous thread about converting from 48V back to 36V.
As I understand from that thread, 36V is faster. Sure would like to know if there is more to it than that. I had planned on going from 36 to 48. |

Leaving the 49volt batteries and changes just the motor. You or driving a 36v Motor with 48 Volts. is where you get your speed.

I think you are confusing the two. A 36v battery pack with a 36v motor will be a little slower than 48v battery pack and 48v motor if all other things are equal.
The mfg's are making GOLF CARTS!!!!!!!! They don't want people crashing all over the place. So they set the speed to a reasonable speed. A 36v motor run with 48v battery pack and the associated parts is where you get your greater speed!! If you put the 48v motor back in you will lose speed. Hope the mud is clearing. I converted my 36v cart to 48v. I retained the 36v motor. I overvolted the motor which made it spin faster. Higher RPM means higher road speed, higher voltage means higher torque. It's a win-win!

36 Volt Cart As you start from a stop position you push on the accelrator 1/4 of the way down the controls send 9 volts to th motor and the cart goes 3 mph. Then you push the accelrator 1/2 way down the controler sends 18 volts to the motor the cart goes 6mph. Then 3/4 down you are up to 9 mph. all the way down it sends 36 volts to the motor you are at 12 mph. Now by putting 48 volts to the 36 volt motor 1/4 way down on the accelatator the controler sends 12 volts to the motor you are at 4 mph. 1/2 way it sends 24 volt 8 mph. 3/4 of the way down 36 volts you are at 12 mph and all the way down 16 mph at 48 volts. You may also think of it with a light bulb low voltage dem light higher voltage brighter light. Hope this helps.

Yes it can be but how much is anybody's guess. The motor in question lasts 30 years on 36v ... you are increasing RPM by 25% mathematically it should last 8-9 yrs less ....
I don't have a more definitive answer because nobody is coming back with worn out motors yet |
