LOL that's hard to argue with but I'm still putting safety devices on my controls.....
Hey call me in the AM if you see this.

your AM or my AM? lmao.... Just give me a shout whenever you want.....

I'm not disagreeing about the safety devices, I have simply found that they aren't as needed as the manufacturers claim them to be.... Heck my Marathon hasn't had one on it in years and I beat the crap out of that cart..... Everything you should never do to a cart has been done to that one and it still outruns everything around here......

You start telling customers to run that way and they will want you to buy their controller when it fries?

P.S. I'm sending you my new favorite Melex customer

nope, I tell every one of them that they leave off those parts at their own risk.

Considering where you are located, your proofreader might be smoking something medicinal.

In the first sentence (the one starting with "You need both......") protect is spelled "pretect".

In addition to pre-charging filter capacitors, doesn't the resistor provide a current path for regen braking when throttle is all the way up on Sepex carts?
(Or is the regen braking current path through the controller itself?)

DC relay coils produce a spike with the opposite polarity as the magnetic field collapses when current flow through it stops.
If the relay coil is activated electronically, it needs a diode to protect whatever is turning it on and off, from that spike.
If the relay coil is activated via switch contacts, it is not as important to have one, unless the switch is slow to open and design is marginal.

My 2008 PDS has the resistor, but not the diode. However, I'm going to add the diode for the simple reason that I think it ought to have one.

I am just putting a rebuilt DCS controller on my 99 EZGO TXT DCS cart. I have a Curtis PMC resistor / diode that is on a small circuit board and goes from the Positive (+)large terminal to the negative(-) large terminal. It was already on the cart when I bought it.
QUESTION: 1. Is that set up OK? or Do I still need a diode on the small terminals?
2. How do I know which direction to attach it to the terminal post? od does it matter?

The stock DCS set up used a resistor board. This was mounted between the large posts and had 2 diodes built into it. One end of the board was painted white; the white goes on the terminal which connects to the battery not the side that connects to the controller.

Use this stock resistor board with a stock controller. Use the set I posted with an aftermarket speed control for Ezgo DCS carts.
