As one who has already been down this road, voltage = rpm. You need to convert to 48v first. The motor and gears will also be necessary for the speeds that you are trying to attain.

Understood. You don't think I can hit 35 mph with just an alltrax, h/s gears, stock motor and 36v on 18" tires?

I don't think so. My cart ran 32mph with 20" tires, DCX500 and the stock motor on 48v.

Terry, was that with 6:1 gears or 12:1 gears?

That was with the 12:1 gears but as you prevoiously stated, you will likely run out of power with the high speed gears before you achive what you are looking for expecially with only 36 volts plus the motor will actually work much harder and pull more maps because it is under additional load due to the gearing so I forsee possible heat issues as well.

All great advice. I planned on purchasing new batteries anyway so I may just convert to 48v also when the controller and gears come in. I'm fully aware of the possible heat issue with stock pds motor. I'll keep an eye on it so as not to kill a good motor. If it gets too hot too fast I may swap the 12:1 gears back in or save for a D&D motor.

Brakes? Can't I just hang a foot out to slow down?

Before I upgraded, with all stock and four passengers going uphill, someone had the bright idea to put his foot out to help push the very slow buggy up the hill. He found out it wasn't as slow as he thought.
