Default Re: Can I put Power Drive II on a timer?

You said that the cart will sit for 2 or 3 weeks, not months on end. If you're at all concerned, just leave it sit. If the batteries are clean and dry and there's no parasitic loads, it won't hurt the batteries to sit for a couple of months, IMO. I've seen advice to charge the batteries once a month or so if the cart is unused, and that's plenty often.

If you want to check for parasitic loads, disconnect a battery cable and place your DVM, set to DC Amps, in series with the cable and battery post. It should read Zero, or very near so. A few milliamps of draw wouldn't be surprising and should be harmless.

Batteries that are dirty on top, and perhaps a bit damp, will discharge very quickly. Many years ago, I had a 6 volt tractor battery with exposed cell connectors that was damp and dirty. It would be flat dead overnight. Washed and dried it, and the tractor could sit for a couple of months and still crank right up.
