DVM Wiring Question
I just purchased an inexpensive DVM and it has two wires. I am switching out the old Curtis bar meter that that has a black, red and blue (switched). I tested the wires and I hooked the red from the new DVM to the blue (switched) wire and the black/red wire from the new DVM to the black wire from the cart. I left the red form the cart alone. Everything works great and it only comes on when the switch is on.
Is the proper way to wire it? I want to make sure I am not going to damage anything Thanks for your help |

Re: DVM Wiring Question
. . . typical Curtis bar meters are 3 wires . . .
Pin 1 goes to battery pack + Pin 2 goes to battery pack - Pin 3 not used Pin 4 goes to battery + via keyswitch NOTE: Pin 1 and 2 represent battery pack voltage so these wires go to the pack main + and main - terminals. . . . not knowing what type of "inexpensive" DVM you purchased, I would guess that you connected it's negative lead to the wire that was on the Curtis Pin 2 and the positive to the wire that was connected to the Pin 4 (to keep the new DVM switched). This is fine. Make sure to wire nut/tape off the other positive wire that was formerly on Pin 1 of the Curtis meter because that is a "hot" wire . . . . |
