Default Battery Break-in Questions

I plan on getting my 6, 8v US-8VGC XC batteries this weekend for my 48v conversion. I have read Scotty B’s break in instructions. I also understand that you should charge the pack as much as possible. So my question is this, during break in period (10-20 full charge cycles) is it better to let the pack drop down to 70% state of charge before charging or charge it every time after use no matter how little pack voltage drops?

Just plug it in at the end of each day when you are done using it. Don't let the pack sit uncharged overnight.

You should just not go below the 70% mark on the first 10-20 charges. You don't have to go that low each time.

UroGator - basically just give it 10 - 20 full charges regardless of use - thanks

Yup. You may want to take it down to the 70% threshold a few times just to give the batteries a good charge in the initial few charges

I charged mine when it got down to 70% for the first 20 charges and let the charger shut off before using it again. Now I charge whenever not in use.

I asked this same question when I first got my new 48V pack and both ScottyB and JohnnieB chimed in and gave the advice I gave.

Swan - that was the direction I was headed in, different theory than UroGator. Is there a significant difference?

Here are the responses I got from JohnnieB:

The 75% is a lower limit rather than a goal. Okay not to to go down to 75%, just don't go below 75% for the first dozen or two charge cycles.

Recharge after each use, or at least each night if you are making numerous short trips.

If your routine usage doesn't take the pack down anywhere near 75%, intentionally take a longer trip that will, or take multiple trips in the same day.

Don't let the batteries sit overnight in a partially discharged state.

and ScottyB:

These suggested 75% capacity recharge mark is a reference intended to prevent deep discharge in the initial cycles. Less discharge is okay, more is not.
You can recharge at 10% if you like.
