Voltage regulator
Hello,
First post, so please be nice! New cart owner, so not real familiar with how the charging system works. Bought a older Yamaha cart. Serial number is JG5309689, based on this I feel it is a 1994 G9AK. Person that had it prior to me replaced a few items because it would not charge the battery. He has replaced the stater generator and also a coil looking thing next to the starter generator. It appears to have 4 posts, 2 small and 2 larger. I have put a new automotive battery in it and still not charging. The voltage regulator looks stock, but doesn't show a short to ground or anything, but figured that is why it is not charging. I have since purchased a voltage regulator and installed. Right away it blew the fuse and showed an open short to ground when I tested the leads. I thought it was a bad part, contacted the seller whom sent another out. Tested the leads to ground on new one prior to installation. Was good, no open short to ground. Put in the golf cart and same thing, blew fuse and now shows short to ground. The factory male plug fit perfect into the regulator female plug. Didn't modify anything to get to go. Is there certain types of voltage regulators? Can anyone tell me what I need to buy? I see different numbers, now that is, on the voltage regulators. The numbers on mine are SH263-12 3.9 181. Not sure what all these mean though. Just want to get this thing charging again. If anyone can help I would appreciate it! |

Re: Voltage regulator
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if the voltage regulator numbers need to be exact as to what is in it? Will it work if I make sure the numbers are bigger then what I take out? |

Re: Voltage regulator
JF2-81910-10 shows as the correct part number as per yamaha website (a part with the correct prefix & suffix will be fine, IE: JF2-81910-##, last 2 digits represent Minor changes over the years). TIP- in yamaha part numbers, the last 2 digits tell a little story about the part since the original was released,"-02" means 2 minor changes have been made (ie: minor calibration changes, ect), "-10" means a more significant changes have been made (ie: major calibration change, or now from a different supplier, ect). This does not really apply to yamaha part numbers with the #####-##### number structure (springs, seals, bearings, bolts). I dont generally go by the numbers printed on the part itself if it is not in a yamaha part number format, and if it is not a genuine yamaha part, all guesses are out the window (not all yamaha part numbers are printed directly on the part itself, but on the package its delivered in).
