My ongoing G1 Q and A thread
Welp! I’ve started working on the ole girl.
She does her share of sputtering especially at high speed. But I’m fairly certain that it’s because I’m running pre-mix at 85:1 while the factory injection does between like 300-150:1 from what I’ve read. On the bright side, my compression seems to be on par with where an ‘82 should be I will eventually be looking to go back to the oil injection. But that’ll be later. Today: she got a full once over, scrubbing, degreasing, emptied the fuel tank, cleaned it out and refilled with ethanol free at the 85:1 level. New NGK plug, air and fuel filters arrive tomorrow. Emptying and refilling the gas tank was a big improvement. I think the P/O was running at like 40:1. Old gas had some water in it too based on the “glass jar” test. And the old plug was a too hot chanpion. Previous owner appears to have done the injection delete properly and put a plate where the old pump was. The carb is new, and it shows. but I rebuilt and refurbed it today anyway just to get a good baseline. GPS has me topping out at about 15-16 mph, and I’m not mad at that. On the carb, I had a few questions. What carb adjustments would you do if you did the injection delete? Factory specs are metered for air and fuel and oil is almost “ancillary” to the carb operation. So in my mind the idle and pitot screw settings aren’t really set for pre-mix. But I might be over thinking it. Also, what’s this rubber tube coming off of here? I thought maybe it had to do with the pump delete, but upon inspection that’s not the case either. It’s in pictures in the manual, but nothing says what it is Should it be blocked off? Should it be left open? I’m going to kinda use this thread as an ongoing one - but will post one-off questions here and there as well. Thanks everyone! |

Re: My ongoing G1 Q and A thread
Also - I want to do some seatbelts in the back to keep the kids in when the torque kicks in. Anyone done this? Recommendations?
Thanks again |

Re: My ongoing G1 Q and A thread
I think the hose is a bowl over flow, if the needle sticks it over flows out that tube so it shouldn't be blocked off. id say it lays in that strap off the differential just below.
is that a hinged cover for the compartments on the front cowl? |

Re: My ongoing G1 Q and A thread
That makes sense. It’s what it looked like during the rebuild, but I haven’t seen it before
Yes it is a hinged cover. |

Re: My ongoing G1 Q and A thread
That is a clean cart! I see your 82 doesn't have the butterfly valve in the exhaust. I wonder how this affects the oil injection pump operation? The 82 engine I am pulling the pump from for you had the butter fly in the exhaust.
I have seen some 82's with the buttery fly in the exhaust some with out it. I would like to say they wouldn't make an odd ball oil injector but the 82 in itself is an odd ball. maybe CGTECH can give you an answer to that? |

Re: My ongoing G1 Q and A thread
Not sure what you’re referring to Re: the Butterfly.
And sadly she went back to sputtering again this evening. She runs MUCH better when hot. But when hot it doesn’t seem to want to come alive in reverse. Still can’t properly assess until I change out the fuel filters too. But at least I know there isn’t an issue with the carb or the fuel itself. I seriously debating doing a rebuild just so I know I’m starting clean. But we’ll see where that road takes me. |

Re: My ongoing G1 Q and A thread
Riddle me this: I’ve never ridden in one of these before. But does everyone experience the “RPM bounce” while underway?
I don’t know how else to explain it. But I’ll try. In my truck if I hold my foot in the same spot in the pedal The RPMs a d speed stay the same. But it’s a fuel injected 4 stroke. On the cart if I keep my foot in the same spot. It goes “Vurr....Vurr...Vurr...”. And when I put my foot all the way to the floor it does the same thing but with more “throat” almost like it’s sucking more air, but then laughing at me like “nope... this is it”. While it does this there is a noticeable surge and retraction in momentum. Now part of me was thinking it’s not actual RPM bouncing, but maybe the clutch or another part of the drivetrain grabbing and releasing... but curious. |

Re: My ongoing G1 Q and A thread
Nice looking G1! Are y'all by chance on the G1 facebook group? Your cart looks VERY familiar! I am running a swapped clone engine in mine but feel better that I go 23 mph on stock wheels with gov. intact!
What is the real avg. top speed of a G1 with the 2 stroke? I hear something close to what you are getting but some also say close to 30 mph with wheels and mods?!? |
