2000 TXT lacks power
Hello all...just purchased the cart 4 mos ago and it ran fine...now I have little power and long cranking times at start up. It runs very slow, especially when cold but does run better once warm. It will also backfire occasionally. I have started with replacing plugs to no avail. Is it in the carb? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you checked / adjusted your valves?

Re: 2000 TXT lacks power
It's not difficult if you have the tools and basic engine knowledge. If not, then it may be time for a trip to the local dealership for some help? A complete engine service should include a valve adjustment and a check of the govenor linkages, etc...

Re: 2000 TXT lacks power
Thanks Mike...I found a thread showing the valve adjustment and it looks like a rather simple job. I will try that and go from there. Thanks for the advice.

Re: 2000 TXT lacks power
It is simple - .004" is the setting. I've seen many gassers that have poorly adjusted govenor linkages and / or cables that do not allow proper operation. Take the seat off, jack up the rear end and start the engine. Watch all the linkages and govenor cables / rods. Make sure everything moves freely
Oh - when you take off the valve cover, be careful with the O ring! |

Re: 2000 TXT lacks power
I would clean the carb and definitely check your valves. Sounds like a good service would do you good.
