Default Lithium Conversion

After my father in law's bad boy buggy has been sitting around collecting rust for years, he gave it to me and i've decided to put some money and time into getting it going again. After testing the batteries most are shot and they all need to be replaced. After doing a lot of researching I decided to go the lithium route. I noticed that for a bit there was a website a lot of people recommended for a rebuilt pack and at evbatterycenter, but he has passed and the company no longer builds these. Does anyone else know where I can purchase something equivalent at?

Check out the lithium conversion build thread at top of page.
Not sure anyone, place makes drop in conversions .
Many have done it here but it will take a bit of research and minor fabrication.
Recommend reading thru all the post before deciding on option( for batteries, bms, chargers, ect) before making the jump.

I looked at doing this past winter before replacing batteries but decided investment pay back was not realistic for me since cart is only used maybe 10-12 weekends a year.
Then again most all batteries will be replaced by lithium’s in near future.
Like any new technology cost will come down with time. I hope🤔

If you don't want the cost of a prefab drop in system, there are two sources of lithium batteries available. Ebay is where most people go for their cells and the other option is to call your local junk yard and get your name on a list for the next hybrid or electric car that comes in.

If you are lucky enough to get the pack out of a junker then you can make a fair bit of coin reselling the leftovers on ebay. But a lot of people are looking for those (around here anyway).

Good news is there are LOTS more lithium options available now than when I built. Fiat/Bosch cells, Ford cells, etc. Nissan Leaf is the most commonly used although some of us (like me) use Chevy Volt cells.

There was a stack of 26ah Ford cells for sale recently. Those in a 14S4P would do well. But keep your eyes open when searching and when you find something that suits your price range be sure to check out the battery chemistry and do some online searches for pack failures/warranty jobs on that YEAR and model car. Early leafs had poor BMS parameters whereas other year Leafs were fine.
