Default Powerdrive 3 charger problem

I have a 2009 Champion Edition Club Car Precedent, it has the Lester Powerdrive 3 charger with it. I was working in my shop while charging the cart, and all of a sudden the charger started smoking. I opened it up and the rectifier was nearly melted. I looked at some of my other powerdrive 3 chargers, and some of them had 2 of the older style diode bars in them, I was just wondering if anyone might could help point me to the solution of why my rectifier melted.

OVERLOAD, SHORT things gets dust on them and dust can short and burn. Would check for a dead short in charger after rectifier, then check cart for a short but has a fuse in it to stop overload.

I can't see find anything shorted out in the charger, and the cart is okay, other chargers work fine on the same cart. I am wondering if Club Car might be having problems with some of these chargers, being that some of the others ones have a different heat sink in them. This one has me puzzled.

Sounds to me like it shorted in the transformer then but you need to ohm out to be sure.

I think you hit it right. I put a new rectifier in the charger, and it didn't smoke this one, but the charger just hums, and the ammeter doesn't move, and the charger isn't charging at all. I think I have transformer problem.

It's nice when people solve their own problems
