Battery sticker shock....
Man, I knew the batteries would be expensive, but this is ridiculous:
Crown $135 Trojan T-875 $125-$150 (depending on which dealer) Rayovac Ultra pro $109 if buying 6 (these are Batteries Plus) Energizers $79 (Sams) My current are Trojans with the H4 code (August 2004) so I planned on doing the Trojan T-875's but that is $802.50 with tax! So, I have been considering the Rayovacs for $699.78 but that is stretching me. I have read the bad talk about the Sams Energizers but for $507.18 they are really making me think. That is almost $300 less than the Trojans! We use our cart on weekends only at the campground and 1-2 weeks for vacation. I charge it each use, and will be doing maintenance monthly. When we use it on the weekends, I never run it down a lot. With this "easy" life for the cart, would the Energizers make it 3 years or more? Or should I at least go with the Batteries Plus for the new pack? My concern is that it has a 6" lift and 23" tires so I want good performance. I am not trying to be cheap, but the Trojan and Crown packs are extremely expensive. Anyone else seeing prices like this and are there other "middle-of-the-road" batteries cost wise? Thanks for all your help guys! |

Re: Battery sticker shock....
Look for U.S brand, or interstate (made by US), should be a little bit cheaper, but better brand.

Re: Battery sticker shock....
This question has gone on before, you should be able to find many pros & con s on this forum. I don't think there ever was a real solid answer.
Energizer batteries came with my second hand 48v 2002 series cart, they are now 1yr old and seem to me to do what ever I ask. People on this forum have had them longer and they seem to function properly! We all know that they are not the best, but are the best price. I drive a Ford truck and not a BMW if you get what I mean! |

Re: Battery sticker shock....
I have energizers with 22" tires. They are new but work great! My brother just bought a used cart with two year old energizers. He just lifted and added 22" tires. He gets 11-12 miles easy in a hilly subdivision. IMHO you will be more than happy with these if you take care of them.

Re: Battery sticker shock....
I`m currently on the far west side of Orlando, Fl. Found a dealer here that has T-875 Trojans for $89.33 each + tax and trade ins. Too bad I don`t have my old batteries here to trade in. I`d get a set and take them home with me.

I have been running these batteries for about 7 months with no problems, I charge after every use and maintain water levels regularly. The pack has had on average about 141 charging cycles since I installed them ( I play golf 4 or 5 times a week) I have not seen any significant problems with them, charge times, volt readings, specific gravity has been good. Even the old 07 in the pack is performing admirably, so I feel it is safe to assume that if you take care of these batteries you can expect to get at least 3 years out of them and probably more. Just my opinion -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 03 cc 48v This was my reply to the same question in another post thought it might help. IMHO I think that the sams clubs will do what you need for 3 yrs or more if taken care of. |

Re: Battery sticker shock....
i agree! also, in my area i saw an add on craigslist posted by our local interstate dealer . basically they are paying 23 cent per pound for salvage baterries. they say this makes the average car battery worth about 8 bucks. this could offset the purchase shock. a friend got his hands on a truck load of dead batteries from our local golf coarse. that could equal a couple c-notes. a little hustle could earn you some batteries for no cash.

Re: Battery sticker shock....
Thanks guys!
I found the Interstates (US Battery) for $96 after a business discount and they pay $7 each for old batteries! I know where I can find a couple of old batteries so that will help. I think this is a happy medium... Thanks again! |
