Re: Clutch help
Sorry I had no idea what year or what model cart he has. But if his cart is in his profile picture, what is it basically a DS? Your right that cleaning it is fine and replacing buttons is fine, especially for the typical cart owner. I guess I’m just used to replacing with new parts because where I work we maintain a lot of security companies and apartment complexes carts so they just pay for new ones.

Re: Clutch help
Well blowing air into the sides of the drive clutch has helped somewhat but still refuses to pop out when stopping on its own at least half the time. I keep the back engine cover removed and a hammer handy to give it a tap to move it and helps the start function. When trying to start with the drive clutch engaged the starter attempts to not only start the engine but also move the cart. Too much work for the starter. Hopefully when the cart goes up for winter I will attempt to remove and replace the buttons.

Re: Clutch help
Yeah the fact that you need to tap it with a hammer shows they are worn out and need replaced

Re: Clutch help
I just click on their username, click on "Find more posts by so and so"... and eventually you'll find where they mention what type of cart they have.
Pretty much a DS platform... the XRT800's have a different front cowl, dash, and a few other goodies compared to a standard DS! bcsman has a 93 DS... it's a bit older, so that just may be a possibility! The only reasons for CC drive clutch replacements are badly worn sheaves, or something is majorly broken inside, otherwise, they're pretty easy to "renew", and all of the parts are readily available, However... if you want to replace everything in it (idler bearing, weights, spring, etc.)... "just because"... it'll cost almost as much as a new clutch. A couple of notes: 1) When ordering the Button kit... order a "Thrust Washer" also! 2) CC drive clutches are designed to run dry... no lubrication, anywhere! (except maybe a very light coat of white lithium grease on the buttons) Last edited by lockman1; 10-17-2017 at 11:55 AM.. Reason: added a few tidbits of info |
