Default Carryall seems to be under load at times

96 carryall w/ clockwise FE350. Few things this cart was converted to a key start and WAS a counterclockwise cart so yes reverse is forward. Normal top speed was around 24 now running around19/20 and performs as if under load never really winds out. Starts and idles fine acceleration seems a little sluggish and top speed is definitely off, in the past I would have to back off to keep from over-revving the engine now I don't get even close to that point of backing off. Can't decide where to start was hoping for some help/insight on how to proceed

Check your throttle linkage. Sounds like you are not getting enough RPM's.

If reverse (now forward) is a higher ratio, acceleration should be better, more responsive but with lower top end speed.

Thanks and I will I was also thinking about the governor linkage the arm is loose on the pivot pin(?) but I was thinking it somehow tightened up and my speed is actually being affected by this, it does have a new drive belt so I have kinda ruled that out but I was thinking about the clutch or maybe something in the rear????

Are you sure you have the right belt?

It worked as right for a month or more with the new one as always. I use it everyday and I am very intune when somethings not quite right what bothers me is it won't rev to the point to where I have to back off, Now I can leave it floored, in neutral it will rev, what about a dragging brake does that make sense?

Yes the brakes could be dragging. Jack up the rear and see how easily they spin.

So the drop in speed is not right AFTER the new engine, it is after 30 days of having run faster than it is now?

No, no new engine. Engine 2 or more years old runs great sounds right

Obviously, keystart and engine rotation have nothing to do with your issue.

Is that correct?
