Default Re: Wiring a button start, how starter works?

The starter will regenerate its' power when spinning,If the voltage-regulator requires it.If the battery-voltage meets the regulator setting, the Generator is off-line anyway. The ignition system will be drawing power while idling(and it probably draws more from the ignition-system than you realize).A car has its' alternator/generator charging when idling,as does anything else with a charging system, even a lawn-mower.There is no benefit to this, its' a lot of work with no real gain. You don't want it charging while running, but the unit is spinning energized anyway?

I want it charging everytime, i just dont want it drains power while idle, but if the s/g stops to be a starter and becomes a generator as soon as the engine starts, thats really enought to me. its just that im really new in carts and s/g thing, so i started to read lot of info about them and i read on a forum that the generator starts to charge at about 1200-1300 rpm, and that if u idle with the stock wiring u will have backfiring/draining-battery because the starter pulling the engine.

Thaanks lot, ill post soon pics of my ezgo and the homemade 12" lifting process

Many thanks for ur replys

there is no need to do this.

Imagine taking a switch and underneath the mat in the microswitch box that pedal sits on, you unplug the pedal and put a simple on/off switch.

You now have a system that runs with out the pedal.

if you want it on the dash, as a key switch... re route it there, so to speak. there are a billion ways to do that.

One point you brought up though, that I ran into was the issue of low idle.

Sometimes when my old engine wasn't feeling chipper, it would idle low enough not to be a constant drag on the belt, but too low to keep charging, so I had to play with it, and get it like I wanted but that was easy, just part of figuring out how to make it work for me.

Hey if you're gonna lift that cart 12'', you will want to go width too..or slower and more careful all the time..seriously, it ain't fun tipping one over.

The starter/generators are pretty much bullet-proof.If you are new to carts, get yourself more familiar with them before worrying about reengineering something that doesn't need to be bothered with. The idling isn't necessary,as you will find-out once its' tuned properly. My 2-stroke has been a flawless beast of a cart for 4yrs.We beat this thing within an inch of its' life on the trails and it just keeps going. When we stop,it shuts down, when I hit the pedal were off again.

The power to turn the starter/generator in a generate mood is almost nothing. You can charge a dead battery with one using a battery powered hand drill. You are not putting huge amps back into the battery. Wide open it is just 2.5 amps. at an idle it is almost nothing. Use the power formula p=IE. I=.1 amps and e= 13.5. That is 1.35 watts. Like lifting .1 lb. 1 foot. NOTHING to worry over.
