Re: G1 not running
Well, I think it's pooched, compression with oil and WOT was just over 100. Tore the jug off and you can feel some scoring. So either new top end, or bore it 1.0 over and new piston. Probably just as easy to buy a complete top end. Just hope that's the problem, This project could possibly go over budget

Re: G1 not running
I would expect with the oiled rings and a 100 compression it would start. Be a bit tough to try it now.
The rings are free in the grooves? |

Re: G1 not running
That's what I was thinking Charlie, it should start. Rings are completely free and compress and expand. My buddy will look at the jug tomorrow and see if he can bore it before I buy a new 1.0 piston kit. For $75 I'll know that the top end is done right.
My other thought was there was a lot of fuel, too much. I used a B&S v twin pump and was thinking it was too big, but it does run on vacuum and only trickles into the filter. The muffler and bottom end was full of fuel, probably from all the cranking. |

Re: G1 not running
Needle, float something like that go wrong? The bigger fuel pump I would not expect to be an issue, the carb should hold back pressure without regard to the volume sent it's way.

Re: G1 not running
You said the crankcase was full of fuel. Could there just be an issue in the carb and it is severely flooded out?

Re: G1 not running
I agree with Charlee, this sounds like a carb problem.

Re: G1 not running
just honed the cylinder, it's done, rings aren't going to seat and there's some good voids around the ports. Figured it was severely flooded, crank case was loaded with fuel, so it wouldn't start at 100 psi. I was just about to buy new top end and be done with it, but decided to my duramax needed a new front end instead. Maybe next week

Re: G1 not running
I would fix the carburator before you buy a top end.
Trying to start and engine will not fill the exhaust and crankcase with fuel. No amount of compression will make an engine run when the bottom end is full of fuel. |

Re: G1 not running
carb is brand new, maybe it's a bad one, but the fuel washing down the sides of the piston and rings can't be very good.

Re: G1 not running
All it takes is one little floating piece to have been pickup in the tank and make it's way to the carb needle to jam it open. It does not matter how new or old a part is for a bit of crap to cause a problem.
