'94 G9 - Suspected Carb Adjust Issue
I am trying to rebuild a '94 G9 for my kids. We have made good progress with the help of this site.
Recently we replaced the carb and fuel pump. The cart now starts (when choked), then let off choke and starts to run (so far great). Then after 45 sec to a minute, it looses power and stops running on gas (the engine is still turning via the motor). If I choke it, it starts up again (sometimes with a slight backfire), gets up to running, let off choke, gets up to speed, then 45 sec later same thing. This is kind of over and over. Even after the engine is hot, we still have to choke it to get it going. The good run interval is not exactly 45 secs, sometimes it will go for 2 or 3 minutes. When it is running, we have the pedal down all the way and the RPMs are up there (no idea how to measure or if I could what to expect) but it sounds ok. All this is with the rear end supported, we have not driven it yet. The air box is off (needs to be replaced) and the vacuum (or perhaps EGR line) that connects to the air box is loose. I did notice a fair bit of smoke coming from that vacuum/EGR line. My guess is that it is running too lean, but that is almost a complete stab in the dark - so don't ask for my logic behind it. As always, any help would be appreciated. Y'all are making me look like a hero in front of my kids. |

Yes it is running too lean - way lean if it runs when choked bud dies when the choke is off.

Let me clarify somewhat. It does not run when choked. You have to choke it to get it started. Once running, you release the choke. Then it runs well for about 45 seconds, then it kind of slows then dies. Choke again and the cycle repeats

Well whatever was wrong with it has been superceded.
Actually, I think I had it running fairly well. Then big bad noise, smoke and oil. Hole in crank case and two big chunks of metal. This cart is done. If anyone in the North Dallas area wants a '94 G9, e-mail at mattstoc@yahoo.com. Wife is hoping to get $200. |
