G2 blows smoke like a 2 stroke

New member here. Done some reading here seem like a bunch of nice guys around.
My problem now is I just traded a 2003 drz 110 for a 1990 yamaha g2. Now I knew it was smoking when I traded it hoping it to be a easy fix and a buddy of mine is saying the oil ring on the piston must be shot and that is why it blows smoke because of the oil getting by. Now I'm Simi mechanical but don't feel up to par on doing this repair myself. Now are there any good resources for a top end repair in socal?

Or anyone near so cal that is kind enough to help me rebuild the motor? I've called a few places but they want a arm and a leg.. thanks

Or you could buy a factory service manual, it has all the help you need to rebuild it, plus info about repairing every aspect of the cart. They run about $80 at the dealer. If you plan on repairing the cart yourself, the book will be a very valuable resource, money well spent.

Ya a manual would be a good idea. But I also don't feel up to par as in repairing this myslef without help

Any friends that are mechanics??, Putting new rings in is really easy, I did mine in about 2 hours including pulling and installing the motor, cost was about $100 and that was ring kit, gaskets, and a hone for the cylinder.

I have a friend but I thought I had to Crack the motor as one guy said when I called for a quote! But then I also don't have a motor puller or engine stand either. Are those neccasary for a rebuild?

No lift or stand needed. The engine's are not that heavy once all is disconnected. You would need to purchase or borrow a primary clutch fixed sheave puller tool. There are may replies to this same question. Sometimes a search for the subject will bring up what you need, if not, we are all here to walk you thru it.

Will a puller for a 2003 g22 work? My buddy that has a cart had to rebuild his top end and just so happens to have a puller

If it is for a stock G22 clutch, yes it will.
