Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
I know this is an old post and don't mean to steal your thread but why are headlights required to install the speed upgrade code?

Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
I would spend the money and go with the Alltrax. I have the 300AMP and love it 21-23 mph and tons of torque

Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
Yamaha won't allow their dealerships install the PTV speed code unless the cart has all of the PTV components, headlights, taillights, and the reflective stickers. I think most of the dealers would like to do it without all that, but if they did they could risk losing the Yamaha brand.

Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
By installing the code, it's being converted from a golf cart into a PTV by ANSI definition of what a golf cart is (slow). The definition of what a PTV is includes things like headlights, turn signals, reflectors, ect.

Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
Cgtech- I took my 2007 Yamaha g29 and had the code changed. They showed me the computer they were using and set it at 25 with min regen but i am only getting about 14 mph. I thought it would take me to 19mph. Is something wrong with my cart not accepting the code or did they do something wrong?

Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
All I get is 15 mph with the code. It has to do with batteries and wear and tear on the motor and so on. Best case is 19 but the real deal is about a 5 mph increase. I was getting about 10-11 mph so 15 is better. I put a street legal light kit on and I use a reducer and fuse block so between the cost of the lights and what the dealer charges it comes out to about $350 (if you install the lights yourself) and a few hours (the nearest dealer I found is an hour away and charges $180 plus tax).

Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
When I first bought my 2009 about 3 1/2 years ago, I paid the dealer to put the ptv code in it. I brought it home and it would do 12 mph. I complained to the dealer and they said they couldn't do anything since I installed the lift kit and tires. So I talked to a bigger Yamaha dealer, and they told me to bring it in, and they would check it out. They said that for some reason the code didn't take, and they got a new code from Yamaha, and installed it. That one took. They even gave me a GPS to take on a test drive to verify it. Then I was doing 18 mph.

Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
I know this is an old thread, but when everyone speaks of losing the torque on hills, does that mean you won’t hold a consistent speed? If I am maintaining 11mph on really steep hills right now with the stock setup will I be able to maintain a higher speed with the PTV code and larger tires?
I am trying to decide on a 4” lift with 20” AT tires or a 6” with 22” AT tires. This is strictly for cruising around my neighborhood, which has a lot of hills. They aren’t necessarily super steep, just long gradual inclines. |

Re: 2012 G29 is awful slow!
The speed code wont hurt torque, nor will it help it any. If the speed code gains you any speed on hills, it was extra momentum only, not extra torque. What is gonna kill your torque is the bigger tires, you are gonna notice a big difference with the big tires. I think there's no chance of the speed up hills improving after going to bigger tires.
