Default What is it?

I'm working on getting an 89 ds going. I got the engine overhauled. Trying to start it now and have no spark. I replaced the coil. No spark. And no it wasn't a genuine Kawasaki. Couldn't find one.

At any rate , there is a small module bolted by the coil. I don't know what it is, what its called or anything. It hooks to the two coil wires. Could it be the cause of the no spark? enclosing pic of module
I had to buy a coil for a 90 to match the existing coil.

I found an ad showing this piece, calling it a rpm limiter.
I also found an old post with a ignition test for 86-91 CC. In it you check ohm on 3prong lead from motor. First test no spark. Second, 403ohms, which is 18 ohms over range of 355-385,and to me should still work . Third, 70ohms, in a range of 57-73. From these tests it says the CDI control unit is bad. Is that the same thing as rpm limiter?

CDI unit is the ignition coil itself. The ignition coil that came with your '89 did not originally have an rpm limiter.

according to the tests, everything except the cdi is good. I guess I'm going to send the 90 coil back, and reorder the 89 coil I received. The pairing of 90 coil and rpm lim does not work, and I'm not buying a $125 rpm limit on top of $90 coil. I can't test the rpm limit piece either.
I sent the 89 coil back because it had what looked to be the wrong connecting wires. Now I can see it would have worked if I had pulled rpm limit out too.

I got the right coil, installed it and it runs now. It doesn't run at WOT, you have to slowly coax it up. I've seen this discussed in forums so will spend some time in there today. Guessing its a fuel problem. With my luck its the "not genuine Kawasaki part" problem.
