Unhappy Radio in my golf cart

Installed an aftermarket car radio in my electric golf cart. Used an automotive FM antenna which I hid underneath the front of the cart. Not getting good reception on FM and nothing on AM. Wondering if someone has tried the same thing and had the same problem.

The ant has to have metal ground to reflect from.

Does it never have reception, or just when moving? I have heard that the electric motor can cause interference.

You might be best off to accomplish this feat with a smart phone and a Blue Tooth speaker. These things portable real well. And so then can be transferred into almost anything else as well.

It picks up only the strong local stations on FM but nothing but static on AM.

When I got my cart, the prior owner wire the antenna wire to the rt front bolt for the roof support. It's all hidden under the front cowl. So I guess it's grounded or he was using the roof support as the actual antenna. I get good FM reception and have never tried AM. There is no other antenna mounted anywhere else on the cart.

Best way to Get Good AM Radio Reception in a Golf Cart

http://blog.chinagolfcarts.com/?p=1680

Not an endorsement, just googled it

Getting good AM radio reception in a golf cart can be a tall order, since golf carts are typically run on electric batteries, and AM radios suffer from interference issues from most things electric. That said, there are a few ways to improve the quality of the AM reception in your golf cart. The good news is that buying a new radio is the last resort, since a good radio is likely to have the same problems as a cheap one.
