Default batteries die quickly

I have supposedly 2 1/2 year old batteries trojan 875 six of them. The cart runs great but the battery gauge runs down in 30 min. If I unhook the controller for a couple minutes and hook it back up, the gauge goes back up, but it still runs down fast. I took my F&R switch off and a lug was almost completely burnt off and not making contact. Would the F&R switch do this or is it the batteries or maybe controller?

A few different problems could cause this. Or a combination of problems.
First off the battery voltage under load is unknown, low voltage under load causes high amp draw which causes F&Rs to fail. Motor brush problems can cause high amp draw. Oversized tires & loads or undersized components can cause excessive heat. So we need more information to nail your trouble down.

I am new to the electric carts. I had planned on replacing most of the electronics with new HD stuff from PlumQuik. How do I check the batteries under a load? Special tools or is there any other way?

8 each battery is almost dead. Sounds like you need new batteries. They are not giving you much capacity.

Clip volt meter leads to batteries, drive cart uphill, under load to get the best read on batteries under load. Post results. 50.9 12 hours after charger turns off.

Full charge should read 8.49V
50% should read 8.07V
As a general rule never run your batteries down under 50%.

Whole battery pack 100% 50.93V
Whole battery pack 50% 48.41V
As a general rule never run your batteries down under 50%.

There is a stamp on top of the neg post on your batteries. It should be like A5 K3. With the letter representing the month and the number the year. What does yours say?
