Cable upgrade
Hey guys – I have a quick question. I am currently in the process of upgrading my stock cables to 2 gauge. I have wired everything with the exception of the negative coming off of the battery to the controller. The hole that this cable goes through is too small to put the new wire through and there are two other wires attached to the cable going into the controller.
Can I get away with leaving the stock negative cable on? Thanks |

Re: Cable upgrade
No:
The other wires get ther own eyelet. You use a stud to go through the hole in the obc., but until you get the stud you can use the old cable on it. It will be the bottle neck for your power and the rest of the cables will not help because the small one is blocking the current flow. image.jpeg |

Re: Cable upgrade
Thank you for the reply – could I just widening the hole in order to get the new cable through? If not, is the stud just a brass bolts?
Thanks |

Re: Cable upgrade
The other option I was just told is to leave the original ground running to the controller and connect the new 2 gauge wire from the negative on the battery to the controller as well. Any thoughts?

Re: Cable upgrade
For the OBC to function correctly, it needs to measure all of the power used.
Having a cable bypass the OBC will not work. It will not recharge your batteries correctly. Get the brass bolt. |

Re: Cable upgrade
It's actually measuring current.

Re: Cable upgrade
Thanks Fishbooz - that is what I did this afternoon and it worked great. I ended up using a propane torch to resoldered the connection after putting it through the hole.
