After Market Lights
My neighbor has an all stock 1988 EZGO Marathon, and has asked me to put headlights on it for him.
He bought a set of lights from Auto Zone that have a hot feed wire with a toggle switch and they have short ground wires to use where the lights are mounted. My question is can I ground these lights to the body or frame? Or do I need to run the ground back to the Battery. It's a 36 volt cart so I know I need to pick up power from the second battery. A voltage reducer is not in the budget. Thank you, Aflyer |

Re: After Market Lights
NO CHASSIS GROUNDS. [Unless you need more excitement, angst, or firemen in your life.]

Re: After Market Lights
I had fog lights on my cart, when I bought it. I simply shielded the ground from the frame, and was fine.
It worked fine, until I got it. |

Re: After Market Lights
Not a stupid question. I'm new here too and still learning a lot but figured I could field your question and give the real experts, [the ones that seem to get stuck answering every electrical question], a little rest for their fingers! Better to do a search or ask a question than BBQ your's, or worse, someone else's carriage.

While mine had both + and - wires, the - was attached to the housing near the light bulb socket, so it was possible to remove this jumper. |

Re: After Market Lights
I have a TXT and wired my lights to the second and third batteries to get my 12 volts. I also installed an ATR type inline fuse I got at the auto parts store. I also changed the key switch with one that has lights function. My cart is parked in a public area and I didn't want pranksters to turn my lights on and leave them on.

Re: After Market Lights
Make sure you have a fuse for the hot wire and ground to chassis.
No need to run a wire back to battery unless your chassis is not grounded initially. |
