Uhh huhhh. I am perfectly confused. All I really know is it's cute and fast and we do need seat belts. That's why it's so blasted annoying going down hill, slowing and jerking me down to 5 mph. What is a scatter shield anyway? Did any of the pics I posted reveal anything?

Purchase an OEM speed magnet and have somebody install it... I think your problems may resolve.

Scatter shield - Google it

I googled both. All kinds of strange things popped up, especially the 36 volt OEM magnet tool. Totally different picture than the magnet ring that says it's for a 48 volt. I'll ask my neighbor when he installs the leaf springs of what you're talking about. I'm thinking I'm a little too uneducated for you folks. Thank you for all your help.

I had to run some errands.

You are trying to learn, so here is how to decode the tire size stamped on your tires.

The first set of numbers (215) is in tire width from sidewall to sidewall in Millimeters.
The second is the sidewall width to sidewall height ratio (35%)
The third is wheel (rim) diameter in inches. (12")

215mm is 8.465" and 35% of that is 2.96"
There is tire both above and below the rim, so the total tire height is 2.96" + 2.96" + 12" or 17.92"

Basically, you have stock height (18") tires so torque loss/gain is nil.

To reach 29 MPH with your 17.92" tire height, your motor has to be spinning at 6767 RPM and as previously mentioned a stock PDS motor will only spin at about 5600 RPM when powered by a 36V battery pack, which is about 24 MPH with your tire height, so there is something else going on. Aftermarket motor perhaps.

As for slowing to 5 MPH going downhill, if you put your foot back on the throttle pedal, you ought to be able to maintain any speed you want up to 29 MPH.

When your neighbor replaces the springs, see if you can get hike to take some pictures of the motor and what is under the environmental cover on the controller.

Part number for the magnet disk is 73328G01

I suspect Scotty was being a bit facetious about the scatter shield, the motor housing itself typically contains the shrapnel when the armature explodes, or at least mine did when I exploded a stock PDS motor that I was spinning over 8000RPM with a controller that did not limit motor RPM and my foot on the floor while going down a steep hill.

Took out both the motor and the controller. Expensive lesson.
