Default Is this spindle bad?

Took front hubs off today, and found one of the spindles has a noticeable ridge as if the center part is worn. I can catch a fingernail on the rear of the one on the front of the picture, and just barely on the front ridge. The rear spindle in the pic looks to have a ridge, but it won't catch a fingernail.

Should I go ahead and replace these spindles? Or is this normal? Since they are different, I have to believe "no".

the area you are talking about doesn't contact anything, there should be nothing but grease there if anything between the bearing fits.....as long as the part of the spindle where the bearing races fit on the spindle are good and fit correctly, you are fine. All you need to do is measure the two fits and are the same....you are good.

Its just the opposite of what you are thinking!

The middle of the spindle is a no contact area. The inner bearings race sits on the ends of the spindles and also should be a no ware as it only holds the bearing. All rotation is done inside the bearing it self and not on the spindle.

Your good

Wow didn't mean to step on your toes.

I just though he may have gotten confused when you told him to measure inner bearing and spindle.

I read "Nuke's" post and understood it. Then I read the 1st part of Gearhead's post and began to get confused.....then the second part said what Nuke's said...so it was all good.
