Battery Help Please
I just purchased a 2007 Club Car Precedent with 2007 Club Car Batteries (Trojans)
It is a 4x 12V setup (48V total). If I measure the +/- of each battery with a volt meter I get 12.4v/12.5v on each battery. If I measure the +/- from the start to the end of the battery chain I get 37.6V total. Am I doing something wrong? Or is something wrong with my batteries/Wires etc? The cart feels sluggish hence my checking on the batteries. They are topped off as appropriate with fluid too. Thanks for any help. Ryan Cassidy |

Re: Battery Help Please
You should be getting around 49V, seems like one of your batts in not connected in series, if you go to the first pos and last neg of the pack that is where you would measure. Something is off or not connected to only be getting that voltage, are all the wires tight? Check each cable make sure they will not move etc.

Re: Battery Help Please
lol - First Question = Stupid Question . I went back out and looked, took the cover off in-between the batteries and realized was only measuring 3 out of 4 batteries. If I measure correctly, I get 50.1v at not quite a full charge. So i think the batteries are good (charging it to full now and I'll retest tonight or the AM). Just the cart is dog slow :-) Supposed to be at Speed setting 3.
I think I'll get a PQ motor as I've been reading good things about them lately to give it that extra bump up. Thanks again! |

Re: Battery Help Please
Make sure the batteries load test good BEFORE you spend cash on a bigger motor. THe bigger motor will draw more amps and drain the pack quicker so if you have 1 or more weak batteries it will be more evident with the big motor...

Re: Battery Help Please
SCOTTYB is correct with possible 3-4 year old 12 volt batterys they may be getting weak? Seems that 3-4 years is about it for 12 volters? You might want to consider 6- 8 volt batterys as replacements. Much longer life and range etc with 8 volt batterys. Kit is available to make conversion simple. Would you say your speed is around 8-10 mph? If so it could be that speed sensor on motor is bad and even though controller is set on #3controller is not allowing higher speed?

Re: Battery Help Please
It's tough to say.... I don't have a GPS, but I would guess it to be in the 12-14mph range. It just feels slow. Let me put it this way... I feel slower driving it than others "look" when driving their carts. It rockets off the line, and accelerates great, just top end is a little disappointing.
How does one load test the batteries? Simple question I'm sure, but I'm learning as I go here but you are right, that is the first step. Ryan |

Re: Battery Help Please
As to speed remember that golf carts are not supposed to go faster than 12-14 MPH by code, so if you want more you need to get it set up in your case I think to #4 at Club Car dealer. A cheap load tester can be purchased from Harbor Freight Company. You can only get a 6 and 12 volt tester so you wont have any problems with one. The 8 volt battery carts can use the same tester also but readings will vary from instructions. Follow instructions and you will get good results. I am an old timer and grew up using a single float hydrometer with temperature correcting scale. The reading on each cell give you good information "IF" you dont test until at least 1 hour after charging or after adding DISTILLED WATER and charging and the waiting at least again 1 hour. Refire to STICKIES above for correct readings.
