Congrats Navy! And thanks for your service!

They don't actually make any kits that fit the G8 specifically. What a few of us have done is constructed our own. I'll attach the plans here.

The G8 cowl is one very sought after item. If yours is in good shape, fiberglass it and fix it!! Just my humble opinion, but the G8 was the best cart that Yamaha produced back then!!

Thank you for the assist. That is what I actually did with the cowl- fiberglass the fender. Turned out decent As for the rear seat, that is what I figured. Will start the welding and construction of the kit I purchased.

I assume this may be the same thing for the rear support for the roof and front struts support for the windshield? Thanks.

Yes. I combined the bracket that holds the rear seat, to the support for the rear roof brackets. As far as the front root support - my roof had a horizontal section across the bottom portion. I simply drilled holes through that horizontal bar in two locations right down to the top of the cowl (at the glove boxes) and put a washer with a nut to hold in place.

Hello all, hoping for some helpful tips on my new to me 1991 G8. I attached pics for reference.

1). Runs and starts okay but can’t get it over 13 mph.... normal? Or what should go after first to increase speed I tried adjusting governor didn’t help much

2). When braking hard down a steep hill it appears on wheels locks up I assume this is normal?

3). What lift kit is best for the 1991 g8? I’d like to go 6” up

Thanks!

Wow! an untouched g8. Kinda like finding a 67 mustang. I mean you do have a almost 30 year old cart, so wouldn't expect too much out of that engine!!! We usually bypass the governor, by hooking the throttle cable directly to the carb. Yes, braking is typical of golf carts. Hey, at least it stops!!

You are limited to lifts I think. I'd install a 6" Jakes Spindle lift. Had that lift on mine for years, worked fine.

[ I read somewhere that the Yamaha G16 front top supports would work for the G8, have you heard this before? ]

If memory serves me correctly, the G16 has brackets, which come off the frame, with studs that the roof would sit on. Here's a picture for reference.

Thanks Mason! Good to know I’m working with a classic, I dig it. I just picked up a brand new carb on amazon since they’re online $20, hopefully that helps too.

On a side note, what’s a good front bumper replacement bolt on option? I’ll be ordering the jakes lift. Thanks

Uh oh Lchizz. Not many people have had luck with the $20 amazon carb! If you have the oem Mikuni carb, you are always better off cleaning and rebuilding the original than buying the $20 Amazon special.

Wow you must be from the Pacific NW. Only Cart Service Equipment (a Yamaha dealership I worked for) had the wrap around windshields like your's. Be careful with it, the company that made them for us is long out of business.
