Charger issue's

Have a 95 Club Car DS 48v electric, just purchased new club car charger and 6 new batteries, charger clicks when plugged in but not charging, have tried charger on another 48v club car and works no problem, used the cart for about 10 hrs. after new batteries were installed, then plugged in charger and it never registered anything, went to use cart the next time and it just shuddered when I tried to move it, again charger plugged in and not charging, was able to recharge all batteries to 42v and able to drive it, but still could not get proper charger to work so tried to reset OBC and now the cart does not move, it tries and battery volts are all still up, thanks for any info that can help

This sounds like a definite battery problem. One of your batteries may have a bad cell. Shuddering is a sign of low voltage with a series cart. Just voltage can be misleading, I would do a load test on each one. Do you have a multimeter?

your voltage is still too low to get the charger to come on, get the pack voltage up and more than likely you don't have a charger problem.

I would return those batteries and get another set! No new batteries should be that low on charge! They will never charge properly and are permanently damaged! Here's a chart to go by for state of charge. The shop that sold you these should replace them free of charge!

There are two ways to force the charger to turn on regardless of the OBC.

The first method is to disconnect the cart’s gray wire at the fuse near the charger receptacle. Then using a jumper wire, connect the receptacle side of the fused connector to the cart’s negative battery terminal. This will energize the charger’s 48V relay. If the charger doesn’t come on, it could be bad connections, wiring or charger relay.

The second method is to open the charger and remove the 120V wires from the relay and jump these together. This totally bypasses the relay and the OBC wire.


(If charger comes on but the charger ammeter shows 0 amps, check the fuse at the charging receptacle under the clear plastic cover.)

Both of these methods should both be temporary measures for troubleshooting, or as an emergency method of charging the batteries when they have been discharged so far that the OBC will not charge them.

The OBC provides the optimum method of charging the cart’s batteries. If the OBC is bad, it should be replaced

Let it charge fully (until the charger turns off), then connect a multimeter to the battery pack and try to drive the cart. What does the voltage do? If it drops considerably, do the same thing with each individual battery. Let us know what your readings are.
