Default precedent new batteries gassing too much

I just installed 4 new 12 volt trojans in my 08 precedent. When i tried to run it, it would not move.
So i diagnosed the computer was in a solenoid lock out mode, and was not working. So i replaced the computer with a new one ( version 5.something?)

Cart now runs and charges. I have charged the cart about 5 times since the install. Here is my question :

The batteries are really gassing alot, even after these 5 charges,

After a full charge, and sitting for 12 hours they read 51.5 volts.

When charging, i took a reading 64.3 at 5 amps and still out gassing.

Do i have a problem here?
Will the gassing stop?
whats causing this?
Is there something wrong with the charger, that it is equalizing all the time?

I believe all of that is normal. One thing you did not mention was how long it is taking your batteries to charge. Almost forgot. This is one situation were a OBC reset might do some good. :)

As far as a obc reset, i just replaced the obc, and it has been working. Do i still need to try a reset?

IF:
  • You are not causing the equalize cycle but unplugging and re-plugging the charger without driving the cart.
  • There is only 1 pack negative cable and it runs thru the OBC.
  • There are no by-passes on the sense wire, charger receptacle negative or charger relay.

Then the only other thing I can think of is maybe the OBC is not seeing the same voltage that you are measuring directly on the pack.

It could be caused by a poor connection on the solenoid Big post (where the harness gets the positive) or a bad sonic weld (right before the OBC red wire splits off the harness).

Put the cart on Tow, disconnect the 6 pin plug from the OBC and measure the voltage on the red wire, it should be very close to pack voltage.

Drink a beer and don't worry so much. It sounds fine to me. You should be in a cart barn full of 65 carts with new batteries. Talk about gassing...
