Default 1979 ezgo no spark

New to forum, so please excuse if I make errors. 1979 with points. If I ground a test light and go to either primary connection on the coil I have power but no spark to the plug. Is that normal? or telling me that something is wrong with the points or condenser.

Its been a little while since I dealt with one of these but Im thinking you should have a flashing light if you are turning the engine. If the light is solid, your points are likely not opening. I believe you can access the points to inspect and adjust them without removing the flywheel.

Thank you, I'll check that out with the engine turning over. it was a steady light with only the key turned on.

You were correct. The points were not opening. I now have spark. Have to say though that it is a terrible design. Hope they found something better and easier.

I'm glad you found it! You can convert it to electronic ignition but I personally dont think its worth the effort. 1981 and later is electronic.
