Default backfiring golfcart

2004 ezgo golf cart gas powered runs fine but after riding a little while it has a little bit of a backfire every once and a while. I put new spark plugs and new fuel pump in recently. Any suggestions? maybe getting to much gas? Im not real worried about it because it runs ok.

I would check the valve adjustments. 0.004 cold. You might be overdue for a valve adjustment. Continued backfire can be a source of burned valves.

Is the .004 for cold or warm climates?

Mine is an '05. It backfires when I run it wide open and come to a quick stop. I just assumed it was "loaded up" with fuel.

It I run it half to 3/4 throttle and stop, there is no backfiring.

It runs great, no complaints, just an observation to add that may help.

Make sure your throttle plate is closing all the way when you're off the peddle.

How do I check that ?

There a few times that I've come off full throttle to a quick stop and it's actually started sputtering and will go in reverse. very odd... Mostly though, it will backfire, maybe five seconds after coming to a stop.
